New Apartment 7/22/19

This entire welcome and design was created with loose colored rice. It’s unbelievable.

We moved into our apartment and it’s massive and beautiful! The living room is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows / doors on two walls, both leading out to balconies. One of the balconies is also massive. From the previous owner, we bought about twenty potted trees that line the balcony and a hammock that sits beneath an overhang. We’re also hoping to get some lights to string there as well. Today I lay on the hammock for about 20 minutes and the trees around the apartment that cover us from the road were completely filled with birds—all unknown to me. Debika Mashi is an expert in trees and birds of Delhi and used to teach a class for families at the school, so we’ll have to invite her over to identify them all for us.
Our entire apartment is full of windows and balconies. Each bedroom has an attached bathroom and a very small balcony in it as well. We are completely surrounded by the green that we’ve been loving so much in Delhi.

Food Galore!

About an hour after we were dropped off at our apartment, three people from the school arrived with boxes full of things for our fridge. They came in and filled it up entirely with enough food for the next few days all made from the cafeteria at the school. Joya told us the food there was really good, and now it’s confirmed. We received cinnamon rolls, bread, peanut butter, jelly, cookies, brownies, a vegetable quiche, lasagna, Coke, water, milk, beer, fruits, veggies, mayo, juice, eggs, coffee, and tea! We continue to feel as though we’re living like royalty.

C Block Market

Because it’s monsoon season, it means that it’s also mosquito season. The Kumars told us to get mosquito repellent wall plug-ins, patches, and spray. We were also in need of phone chargers that work with the outlets here. So we ventured over to a nearby market called C Block Market, about a ten minute walk from us. The market is filled with different small shops and we happened upon a nice woman in a pharmacy who helped us with the mosquito repellent. We tried our luck walking back a different route, avoiding a busy main road, and made it back easily!

Jet Lag Update

Last night, I didn’t sleep well and was lying awake in bed from 1am-4am until I slept one more hour before deciding to wake up. Jake had a similar experience but at a different time. So today, we were determined to power through without any naps, which we’ve done successfully! Going to be an early night tonight!
